There are a lot of things you can do with your car—and a lot of things you never should. For example, jump staring a car backwards can destroy your alternator and main computer. Batteries have positive and negative terminals, while jumper cables have corresponding positive and negative clamps. Switching them can result in a shower of sparks and a fried car.
Another thing that is really harmful for your car is letting it run out of gas completely. Trying to start a car on empty will cause the fuel pump to inhale air in the absence of fuel, burning the pump out—and that is one expensive repair. Not changing your oil frequently can clog your engine’s delicate parts, especially in a more modern vehicle with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Not changing your coolant is just as dangerous as not changing your oil, and can result in corroded aluminum parts within the engine.
