The Importance of Checking Your Car's Coolant Level

    Last updated 22 days ago

Maintaining you car’s coolant levels is an essential part of auto maintenance. Watch this video guide for a brief walkthrough of how to check your radiator and coolant levels, and what to do if you spot problems.

Beware of scalds if the engine is still hot, as the pressurized coolant can spray from the cap without proper precautions. If your coolant levels are low, refill the reservoir with appropriately rated coolant and check the hose connections for signs of cracks or leaks.

If your car is constantly leaking coolant, the professionals here at Greulich’s Automotive Service & Collision can provide you with reliable repairs throughout the Valley. Get your car prepped for the Arizona summer and schedule a service appointment by calling (480) 389-2358 today, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest auto maintenance tips!

Make Sure Your Vehicle is Ready for Summer

    Last updated 1 month ago

A few relatively inexpensive steps can ensure that your car will hold up in the summer heat, withstand the pain of traffic jams and minimize long-term maintenance costs.
As part of the 21st century tune-up on today's modern vehicles, the following systems should be inspected:

    • Oil: It really should be changed every 5,000 miles, so check the mileage written on that little sticker in the upper left corner of your windshield.
    • Tire pressure: Monitor tire pressure, wear and tread depth regularly.
    • Coolant or radiator fluid: Check before summer and again before winter.
    • Brake pads, discs and brake fluid: Check every 30,000 miles.
    • Wiper fluid and blades: They need regular attention. Greasy windshields can become opaque in a wicked thunderstorm and lead to accidents.
    • Power-steering fluid: Check it at major service intervals.
    • Air-conditioning: If you live in or plan to travel to areas of extreme heat, be sure to have this checked and charged if needed.
    • Spark plugs: Replace plugs every 50,000 to 60,000 miles for optimal performance and change wires along with the plugs.
    • Oxygen sensor: It is the brain that tells the computer how much fuel to send to your engine. Have it checked during tune up.
    • Fuel pumps and filters: Most manufacturers recommend replacement every 3 years or 36,000 miles. If you have a high mileage vehicle you should replace your car's fuel filter once a year.
    • Oil filters: You should have your oil filter replaced every time your oil is changed.

So before you set out for adventure this summer, check your vehicle's owner manual for your maintenance schedule. Major services are generally due every 30,000 miles. If your odometer reading is a multiple of 30,000, it's time to make that service appointment.

Biggest Auto Maintenance Mistakes Made By Drivers

    Last updated 1 month ago

Many people believe that if you take good care of your car, it will take care of your for hundreds and thousands of miles. But just as important as remembering to seek the right car maintenance services, it is also important that you familiarize yourself with what not to do to your vehicle.

To ensure the best care for your vehicle, keep reading to take a look at some of the common errors that drivers make.

    Neglecting Required Services

There are dozens of services that your vehicle needs on a yearly basis. Your car’s fluids, battery, powertrain, drivetrain, and tires should be inspected once every three months and serviced as necessary. Neglecting important maintenance services such as these will make your vehicle less safe, less reliable, and more likely to need expensive repairs down the road.

Not Keeping Track of Services That Have Been Performed

Each time you go to a mechanic, you should make a note of what services have been performed. At the very least, you should save any paperwork that details what services have been done. This makes maintenance and repair services easier and more efficient, because it helps your mechanic know which services are overdue. Ideally, you could go to the same car repair shop for your service each time. Having the same mechanic or team of mechanics working on your car every three months ensures that your car gets consistent service.

    Attempting DIY Maintenance Jobs

A surprising number of people that do not have the tools, parts, or knowledge to perform car maintenance or repair services end up attempting to do so in their own garage. Not only is this dangerous, but DIY maintenance and repair jobs can also lead to bigger and more expensive problems down the road. Save yourself the trouble and take your vehicle to a trained and certified mechanic for all of your automotive maintenance and repair needs.

To avoid these common mistakes, take your car to Greulich’s Automotive Service & Collision, a professional car repair shop with locations all over Phoenix.
